What is a research paper? A research paper is a type of academic paper written on the basis of an investigation. For results documented within a research paper, the reporting should preferably be in past tense. The discussion in a research paper should address the significance of the results. Within the discussion in a research paper, the writer should clearly distinguish between documented information and information reflecting on the results. All research papers are written with reference to a particular writing and citation style. The style used in writing determines how the various sources referred to while writing are to be cited within the body of the research paper. Once concluded, a research paper should bear a Page on which the various sources referred to are documented under a title that reflects on the style of writing used. Most research papers are written with reference to the MLA writing and citation style. The reference page is thus titled the work cited page. A good research paper should not be plagiarized.
